AAUW was founded in 1881. The first branch in Virginia, Richmond, was established in 1909, and AAUW of Virginia in 1925. AAUW's mission is the advancement of women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthopy, and research. The 1500 members in Virginia's 28 branches are dedicated to accomplishing that mission.
